General Manager - Mail
Nick Whalen, General Manager - Mail, joined Delta Air Lines in January 2009, bringing over 20 years experience in management of transportation and logistics.
With the support of Operations, Capacity Planning, and Delta Technology, Nick and his team are responsible for coordinating all aspects of Delta's Global Postal Program. The objective of the team is to increase revenue through growth in three distinct channels: USPS International, USPS Domestic, and Foreign Post traffic.
Since joining Delta, the primary focus of the Postal team has been to secure and grow the company's relationship with the United States Postal Service as it transitions from a D.O.T. controlled environment into deregulation. The Delta Team, which includes Air France, KLM, and Korean Airlines, was recently awarded a global contract that touches all six continents. In addition to the tremendous revenue opportunities this award affords, it also poses many challenges including "pay for performance" criteria. The team is working to stabilize the new award in order to maximize revenue.
Prior to joining Delta, Nick has held management positions at United Parcel Service, FedEx Ground and Northwest Airlines. Most recently, he served as Director of Cargo at ATA Airlines where he was responsible for all functions of the division including Operations, Revenue Management, and Postal / Air Freight Sales.
Nick holds a Bachelor's degree in Business from Indiana University. He and his spouse Amy are the proud parents of four children. In addition to his role at Delta, Nick is an avid supporter of community and high school athletics.
